Shaft Weight Lab exists because we kept watching fitting carts hand golfers a flex letter and a torque number and call the job finished — while the shaft on the scale next to it, stamped with the exact same flex code, weighed twelve grams different.
Built on a Bench Scale, Not a Deflection Board
Shaft Weight Lab opened in Lubbock in 2017, out of a converted equipment bay a few blocks off Slide Road. The founding idea was narrow on purpose: before touching flex, torque, or head selection, weigh the bare shaft on a certified scale and write that number down. Almost every fitting question we'd been asked for years turned out to trace back to that single figure.
Since then we've logged bare-shaft weights on nearly ten thousand builds, from junior sets to tour-caliber blades, and built a reference library of how different swing tempos respond to changes in mass alone — independent of flex, independent of torque.

That local reality is a big part of why the weight-first approach took hold here before it caught on anywhere else we'd worked.
