Every Weight Class, Logged and Compared
We weigh your current driver shaft bare, then work through a spread of weight classes at your same flex and loft, recording transition timing and release point on camera for each one. From there we can see exactly where your downswing starts to lag behind a shaft, or where a lighter shaft gets ahead of your hands.
On the South Plains, that timing window matters even more than usual — a driver shaft that's a few grams too light tends to get pushed off-plane in a crosswind gust, while the right weight for your transition holds its line noticeably better.
What Actually Changes in a Weight-First Driver Fitting
Bare-Shaft Mass
We weigh the shaft alone before it's built into a club, since grip weight and head weight can mask the true shaft number on a finished driver.
Weight vs. Flex Separation
We hold flex constant while changing weight class, so any shift in timing traces back to mass alone instead of a mixed variable.
Total Club Weight
Head, shaft, and grip weight all get added together and checked against a target total, rather than optimized separately and hoped to add up correctly.
Length
A shorter shaft at the right weight class often out-performs a longer one at the wrong class — length changes matter less once weight is dialed in.
Grip Weight
Heavier or lighter grips shift the effective balance point of the whole club, which changes how the shaft weight actually plays through impact.
Wind Behavior
We factor in South Plains gust conditions when recommending a weight class, since a driver that holds up in a headwind here needs a different mass profile than one built for a calm range session.
What a Weight-First Driver Fitting Can Fix
Early Release
A shaft that's too light for an aggressive transition can release too soon, costing ball speed and adding face variance at impact. Adding weight often tightens that timing back up.
Late, Lagging Release
A shaft that's too heavy for a smoother transition can drag behind, leaving the face open longer than intended. Trimming weight can restore an on-time release.
Wind-Sensitive Flight
Under-weighted shafts tend to move more off-line under gusty conditions. Stepping up shaft mass, even at the same flex, frequently tightens dispersion in the wind.
Inconsistent Contact Under Fatigue
A shaft weight mismatched to your transition tends to drift further from center as a round goes on. Matching mass to tempo holds up better late in the round.
